What is it?
The thing that makes a plant invasive is its tenaciousness! Identifying and effectively treating these non-desirable plants requires a broad knowledge of native and non-native plant species, as well as the various mechanical, organic, and chemical treatments. EcoSense specializes in invasive management and works with various local partners to track their spread across the Tucson basin.
Why is it important?
The Sonoran ecosystem is complex and interconnected, and this web can be disrupted by plants from other regions that outcompete and replace native plant systems with a single, dominant plant species. Left unchecked, the most well-planned landscapes can be overrun with these undesirable plants that lack any of the various benefits that our natives provide to other indeginious plants and wildlife.
Visit the AZ Native Plant Society for a comprehensive list of invasive plant species.
